Utpal Dutt stars as Chaudhry, a landowner who comes to town looking to get his daughter Sunita (Zarina Wahab) married to the son of his childhood friend Khanna. Khanna's son, Jai (Farooque Shaikh), isn't interested in marrying anyone, but his determined father nonetheless plans a trip to Chaudhry's village for Jai, hoping things will work out. What ensues is a hilarious comedy of errors.

Sitanath Ardhnarayan Choudhry and Ajit Khanna are old friends. Sitanath has a daughter named Sunita, and Ajit has a son named Jai. Both fathers would like their respective children to meet each other and get married. In order to do this, Ajit asks Jai to travel to Sitanath`s village, meet Sunita, and if found compatible, make arrangements for marriage, to which Jai agrees to. On reaching Sitanath`s residence, Jai, in the company of his friend, Pradeep, come across a man named Ravi, who tells them they are in the wrong village, and directs them to a mansion run by an eccentric owner, so that they can spend the night there, and then take the train back the next day. Ravi warns them about the owner, who likes to talk all night to anyone who listens. Both Jai and Pradeep meet the owner, and are quite abrupt with him. The next day, Jai meets the owner`s daughter Kimi, and falls in love with her.

Shiv Prasad Gupta wants his tenant Vinod Singhal to marry one of his three marriageable age girls. However, Vinod falls in love with his office colleague Manju. This angers Gupta and he vows to take revenge.

Saeed's tongue suddenly betrays him, stripping away his ability to speak, except for one word his flawed mouth keeps repeating "Mera".

Roopa lives a wealthy lifestyle with her husband, Prakash Chandra, who works for her dad, Manoharlal Verma, and a daughter named Sharda alias Pinky. Roopa and Prakash do not get along and Roopa suspects that Prakash is having an affair. Her suspicious nature gets a boost when a woman named Sharda Dayal Sharma moves into a house next door. Roopa starts vile rumors about Sharda having an affair with Prakash.

Shanti and Suraj lead a content life until he abandons her to marry Ruchi. Shanti and Ruchi both give birth to boys, who grow up and fight each other, unaware that they are half-brothers.

Bijli (Dimple Kapadia) is the bubbling youthful girl from Chandanpur. Her father, Rameshwar (Satyen Kappu) always holds a grudge about not having a son, but she proves it wrong. Rest of the story shows how Bijli fights with the obstacles that comes in her way with the help of Ravi (Kiran Bedi).
